QuESt - "When Shit Changes"

Been a minute since QuEST made an appearance here on TMB and what better way than to come back with a track like this.

"I wrote this song about 5 to 6 months ago and didn't realize how much it matters to my career and personal life right now. I feel Im in a position thats scary but still exciting. I've lost close friends, and gained closer ones. I've lost love, and gained stronger love. I've moved in places and made mistakes. Yet this year has been the best I've ever had, and I've made changes and experienced changes over all for the better. This is a reflection, and testament for myself personally, and the whole NEATO Nation. Embrace change, and make it your own. N.E.A.T.O - Never Ever Allow The Obscene "

QuESt's Fear Not Failure due out first quarter 2012.

RoQy TyRaiD - "Preach!"

RoQ'y must not wanted to go out quietly in 2011 as he drops his last trouble making banger. Check out "Preach" as he lyrical rips into a few topics some of us face in our lives. This dude has a knack for this stuff. Dopeness.

"Preach!" , the latest RoQ'y / TyRaiD venture is perhaps the most controversial song as of yet. Viciously cutting through the stellar, gritty production of Felony Muzik with the sharpest of wit, lyricism, and execution.. RoQ'y , in "TyRaiD" form..embodies the spirit of the iconoclast in order to restore the system of Checks and Balances. From the questioning of mainstreamed blind faith to the martyring of athletic icons, THIS IS "PREACH!" and THE CULTRUE IS BACK!!!! Project: Ark of Arts ..2012

J57: Stand Out

Shot and cut by Jav Martinez for theREELness, Brooklyn emcee/producer J57 of the Brown Bag AllStars and TMB favorite talks about his beatmaking process. Definitely a cool behind the scenes look at one of the talented voices/sounds behind BBAS and others. But he doesn't do all the work by himself, so look out for J57's co-producer Suri57 with the cameo. He's got a new project on the way. In the meantime, enjoy this piece on J57.

Jinesis "The Coffee Shop"

One of Jinesis's first endeavors, The Coffee Shop (Vol. 1) was intended to be a companion of sorts to J. Dilla's "Donuts" by utilizing some of the late producers same sample choices chopped differently. However, somewhere along the way, the project became it's own stand alone project and alerted the online beat community to what Jinesis's chops and drums were like. An early work but definitely one of the projects closer to his heart, it's been condensed and re-packaged for a more concise listening experience.

It feels like it's been a long minute since Savant's music graced TMB's site but without further ado, he's back. He didn't come alone either. With the lyrical help of Charity Clay, these two go back and forth sharing the mic causing me to zone out and head nod even after hitting repeat a few times. As we travel on the different side of TMB's track, we run into Easy Does It out of Atlantic City. Vocalist Jake describes their group using two others: The Roots x Sublime. Chase Supreme - "Apocalypse Now "

With the title of this track and the tribal influenced production, you immediately get the sense that Chase Supreme (no relation to me, haha) is trying to give the listeners a message much heavier than your normal Hip-Hop track. He separates himself from those rappers that are doing it solely for the glam and the glitz and wants to be taken much more serious than that. It's not a bad track overall and I think the lyrics outshine the production on "Apocalypse Now" but this is one man's opinion. Check it out for yourself.

Chase Supreme has been teasing fans over the past couple of months with a few of his older tracks and an Instrumental EP. Now, the Newark, Delaware-based rapper/producer gives fans his first single, "Apocalypse Now", off of his upcoming mixtape, "Blue Lotus".

What I'm Watching: The Doppelgangaz - "At Night"

The LGhastly Duo are roaming the streets and if you don't have your cloaks on, you might become victim to the night. This joint is chill as hell. Damn. These cats keep it simple in the video and that works perfectly for them because their music is the talk and action. DTMD - "Untitled" feat. ODDISEE

I really have a hard time finding anything with Oddisee on it that I can't bump. This track featuring the young and talented Dunc & Toine rides the same sonic satisfaction and the album overall doesn't disappoint. With a line like "...I'm sewn from the seeds of legendary emcees...see? We the same breed / I remain me...cold enough to give a brain freeze...", if you like listening to lyrics, you'll enjoy this album. But for now, enjoy this track.

DTMD is busy making a couple videos for their recent album release but thought they'd remind everyone of just how dope their album is with this track featuring close friend Oddisee. It's also that time when people start making year end lists, so the 22 year olds, Dunc & Toine, wanted to offer a contender for Best Debut Album 2011: DTMD - Makin' Dollas.

J57 ''Pulp Fiction'' feat. Koncept (Prod. by J57)

The Brown Bag AllStars are having the best week ever. Or maybe it's the fans of the NYC crew that are benefiting. This week Soul Khan dropped Pursuance with Audible Doctor on production. Then Koncept released his latest track/video featuring Soul Khan with production from J57 ahead of his new project awaken . Now J57 releases a new track featuring Koncept from his upcoming project 2057. They're dropping dope music and keeping it in the family this week it seems. Can't be mad at that. Enjoy Pulp Fiction and look for more from the collective coming soon.

What I'm Watching: The Roots & Big K.R.I.T. Perform Make My (Live At Highline Ballroom)

I rarely post videos of live shows that I didn't attend but I couldn't let this one slide. It's The Roots and Big K.R.I.T. performing "Make My" which is off of "Undun", the album that was released yesterday. It's been getting a crazy amount of great reviews everywhere but I'm not surprised. They are an amazing band. Check out the video and see a little of what I'm talking about.

What I'm Watching: EVITAN (Dres & Jarobi) - "P.T.I. (Occupy Wall Street)"

So Dres and Jarobi forming a group and this is the first joint they release? Yeah. I'm listening. Word up. I like the idea of this video. Actually shooting it in NY with the Occupy Wall Street folks. Interesting. Check it.

¡MAYDAY! x The Black Keys - "Sinister Kids Freestyle"

A new ¡MAYDAY! joint. Yep! You know I had to post it. These guys don't stop working. Check it.

Inspired by the recent release of the new Black Keys' album, "El Camino," ¡MAYDAY! hijacked one of their favorite joints from the Keys' last album, with an additional beard-a-fied guitar solo from Plex Luthor to close it out.

The Tex Wattsun Chronic-als CD Release Show (Pics & Vids)

Finally got done with the pics and a few videos from Duece Bug's The Tex Wattsun Chronic-als CD release show. Probably one of the funnest shows I've been to in a while. Definitely check their music out. Good stuff. Check it.

RoQ'y TyRaiD - "The RaiDiant Child" feat Elle Winston

RoQ'y stops by to drop some intense and vivid lyrics on "The RaiDiant Child" and is assisted vocally by the lovely sounding Elle Winston. It's always interesting to hear RoQ'y go off when he's on the mic. Dude doesn't play with the Hip-Hop. Check out his brief summary about the track and after, hit play.

"The RaiDiant Child" parallels the story of Jean-Michael Basquait's own self-discovery and the relentless pursuit of one's passion, despite the objections of those around him and the seemingly insurmountable odds that lay before.

The unorthodox approach to art and the determination to voice one's opinion, forever questioning the status quo, whether in-depth or satirically, propels the artist(s) to new zenith(s).
What affects will this (did this) have on someone so disconnected from the standards of society.

Either way.. behind a raincloud lies the sun. Illuminate.
