Kenton Dunson "Creative Destruction 2"

The first track I heard from Kenton Dunson was his remix to the John Legend cover of Rolling In The Deep. I thought the dude was dope and have been paying attention since. We've featured him on the blog a few times since. His new project Creative Destruction 2 is pretty solid. I'll allow Kenton to take it from here to give you some insight on his new project.
"Creative Destruction 2 is about more than Kenton Dunson. It’s about life, ambition, heartbreak and most importantly, passion. When I came up with the Creative Destruction concept for the first album, I didn’t think it would turn into a series. But as a developing artist in a saturated music environment, I know it’s important to display what you have as soon as it’s ready. This time around, the term Creative Destruction meant replacing my old creative approach as an artist to build more tangible songs that touched a wider base of listeners while remaining original. I believe I struck a solid balance with Creative Destruction 2. I kept the album short and relevant, there’s no fluff on this project. It’s all self-produced and I was able to include two great features to round out the album. This is my best work to date and the momentum is amazing." - Kenton Dunson
Hit play and enjoy.

Jesse Boykins III "Way Of A Wayfarer EP"

Damn. Get familiar with the new project from the multi-talented Jesse Boykins III. I'm on my second listen. What a smooth and soulful project. Hit play, sit back and vibe out. Chea!
“After my last release “The Beauty Created” 3years ago, I took some time to truly discover my art, my spirit, my voice, my style, my love for life and its mysteries. That journey has taken me around the world, exposed me to various cultures and people, and enlightened and influenced me along the way. “Way Of A Wayfarer” is me sharing with you those moments and those lessons, in hopes that I can inspire you to share your moments and lessons with the rest of the World. That is the only way, the universal way. Much love & many thanks to SoulCulture, Street Etiquette & #PassportLife for taking this journey with me. Schwaza. The visions of a lover thru his travels, in search of his present self.”  - Jesse Boykins III

Remember when Ritchcraft zoned out and dropped 30 beats in 30 days straight? Used as a promo leading up to his first trip to SXSW, it was an aggressive and impressive project. Now he returns with What's It All About, an EP compiled of some of the tracks from his recent 30 in 30 project with guest features from Boyill, Foff, Geeter, K. One of my favorite emcees Eternia sat down with Brooklyn Bodedga (the good folks behind the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival) to discuss the importance of her live show. She drops some gems, so take note. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her rock in Brooklyn on July 16th with Random Axe, Shad, Homeboy Sandman and more.

What I'm Watching: Raze & Logic (of The Hollowz) "Thinking Out Loud"

Sometimes a simple video speaks in volumes. This Ku Mays directed video does just that. With it's simplicity, it doesn't take away from the Raze & Logic track, yet enhances it visually. When I first heard the track a while back, it quickly became a favorite. The depth of the lyrics, the Raze production with Mike Carpenter on guitar and co-production, the track provides so much. Sometimes you're just Thinking Out Loud. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

A Fare Slice (I.C. NYC Episode 3)

Another great episode from the Internets Celebrities.
In 1980, New Yorker Eric Bram noticed that for twenty years the price of a subway token had tended to match the price of a slice of pizza. Thirty years later, his hypothesis still holds true. The question we wanted answered is WHY. Are the MTA and the various supposedly independent pizza shops involved in collusion - or who's taking their pricing cues from who? And what about the dollar pizza spots that have been popping up all over Manhattan recently -- could these be predicting a lower cost transit authority appearing in our future?

INSIDE THE MUSIC: Rapsody "Thank H.E.R. Now"

Last week North Carolina's own and Jamla's first lady Rapsody released a pretty impressive project. Through DJBooth.net she dropped Thank H.E.R. Now for the generous price of free.99. You almost feel guilty getting it for free. So, maybe you should be thanking her now and later.

But as Rapsody explains, it's about more than just the money. It's ultimately about the music. Wow, what a nobel idea. I've been a fan of her music since her days with Kooley High. She's a pretty dope emcee and her latest is just another example of the quality she's putting out there.

After the release of the new project I reached out to her for a Q&A. We talked about being a female emcee, the music and more. Check it out after the jump.

Artist Profile: The Arrival of Maal Himself

This is a moment I've been waiting for.

I'm sure there are many in Milwaukee that would echo my sentiments. Maal Himself has stepped out as a solo artist and he's doing so on his own terms, as he delivers up his first track from his upcoming project.

I've been following Maal since I first stumbled on the MKE Hip-Hop scene and I've been a fan of his work. Part of the dope crew Misen Lync, this will be his first solo offering since becoming active in the scene three years ago in July. I'm sure I'm not the only person excited about the forthcoming project.

I connected with Maal to talk about stepping out as a solo artist and what we can expect with the new project. Peep the Q&A after the jump.

AUTOMatic "The HBs" feat. Sarah Fierek

This joint was recently released for free download in collaboration with Brussels, Belgium site/radio station, Laid Back Radio. Those AUTOMatic boys are worldwide now. Ha! Enjoy the smooth cut. Chea!

Interview: Sean Price x TheComeUpShow.com

If you know who Sean Price is then you know he is the type that doesn’t care too much about what other people think. Most artists would love their music to be embraced by all and to get play on commercial stations. Hip-Hop Breakfast Ep 59

If this morning's Hip-Hop Breakfast was served at Denny's it would be the equivalent of their Grand Slam, considering the large portion you're getting. But I don't really mess with Denny's because their eggs are too salty. Allegedly, of course. Ha!

So, EP 59 is like a meal served at one of those hole in the wall diners that are at least one visit away from the health inspector shutting them down. You know the spots I'm talking about with the breakfast specials for like $2.99 and you get 15 items on your plate but need to down a bottle of tums, however the food is so damn good you don't care.

Considering I took last week off, the least I could do was fill you up with just over 27 solid minutes of quality music featuring The Weeknd, Jean Grae, the homie e.d.g.e. and one of my new favorite's Rocky Rivera. I hope EP 59 helps kick start your week. Enjoy. Chea!

Jones Andrews "Tunnel Vision (All Black Everything)"

"I burn it down like Rosewood, no Ving Rhames..."

Jones Andrews blacks out on this track. Pun intended. Enjoy. Chea!
Recently I was going through an extreme case of writer’s block. I listened to other artists that inspire me, watched hip hop documentaries and even just threw on beats and rapped until I turned blue…lol and nothing seemed to work. Then I decided that I need to refocus and just have fun again with my music and not force it, and just let it come to me. Since that occurred I have been grinding harder than ever, doing shows, collabs and just going in. It’s like I have tunnel vision right now I’m so focused on my music that I can’t see anything else around me, so with that being said I present to you “Tunnel Vision(All Black Everything)”. It’s me flexing my lyrical muscle and going in over one of my favorite beats as of late, Lupe Fiasco’s “All Black Everything.”

Download ... Vikter Duplaix - "For Players Only" (Free Mixtape) (@Duplaix)

This joint came out earlier this month, or at least I downloaded it earlier this month. I listened to it maybe twice before hitting play tonight once again. I've heard of Vikter Duplaix before so I'm not considerably new to his music. I think the first time I heard of Vikter was a few years ago when I was driving around in my new car (new to me, haha) and his song popped up on the satellite radio. Listening to satellite radio gave me some hope early on and helped me find artists new to me which I then searched for online.

Here I am on Twitter one day and I notice that he posts a link to a mixtape he recently released. As busy as I am, I don't know how I was able to catch it. Maybe he kept posting the tweet randomly, not sure. So I download it and voilà! This mixtape is intriguingly chill, in my own words obviously. Haha. You'll just have to listen to it yourself but it's a different kind of dope. Those who really know me know that I'm not confined to the two genres of Hip-Hop and R&B. I like to let my ears travel other places as well and I've been satisfied as to where it brought me on this mixtape.

For Players Only is a great, energetic, soul touching, groove inducing mixtape that's sure to please a lot of fans of The Mad Bloggers as well as others. And to top it all off, it's absolutely free. So check out a few tracks and download it after the listens!

What EMS Is Watching ... @McLoughlinMusic - Stereo Hearts

Characteristically awesome.

Over in the TMB inbox, we received an email from Collin telling us about his latest video. "Stereo Hearts" showcases a mash up of "Lazy Songs" by Bruno Mars, "Just Can't Get Enough" by Black Eyed Peas and the feature title "Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes. Besides being a talented singer, Collin also crafted the entire arrangement and played all of the instruments in this recent addition to his repertoire.

I think what I love most about this version of "Stereo Hearts" is that you catch yourself smiling by the time you get to the end of the song. Plus, the video is simple and elegant. It lets us see a raw, talented musician without any unnecessary distractions so many of these videos have today. Again, Collin, well done.

Also, don't forget! If you want to be in the know about what Mr. McLoughlin is up to, check out his Facebook page and click 'like': facebook.com/CollinMcLoughlinMusic.

Jean Grae "Cookies or Comas"

Yeah, I kind of shut down operation today when Jean Grae released her DJ Drama hosted and DJBooth presented mixtape earlier. I wanted to sit back and enjoy it with minimal interruption. So, I updated the blog and then hit play on the latest from Jean. I've been enjoying the project ever since. Jean shows why she's lyrically one of the best on the mixtape ahead of her Cake Or Death project due out this fall. All. Bars. Everything. Geez Greasy. Download it. Oh, and remember it’s comas and not commas. Ha! You’re welcome. Enjoy. Chea!

Naeem Oba "Stomp" (Produced by King Karnov)

Dope. Here's the lead single from Naeem Oba's upcoming EP, MPLS Joe, produced entirely by King Karnov. This joint is serious. SERIOUS. I'm not going to say much more other than blast this at maximum levels. You're welcome. Chea!

INSIDE THE MUSIC: Jesse Abraham "One Day"

I respect Jesse Abraham. He puts his all into his music. He has the uncanny ability to pick quality beats, the right type of features and his content is always on point. Last week with the help of DJBooth.net, Jesse offered up a new old project with One Day. I say new old because there are a few carry over tracks from his One Day EP dropped earlier this year. The additions to the project give it a nice well rounded feel. I dig it.

One Day features guest verses from Blu, Homeboy Sandman, Eric Sosa, Fresh Daily and others. On the production side the project features Panjabi MC, !llmind, K.O. Beatz, Spills, Jinesis and more.

When you hear a project, sometimes you really want to know what the artist was thinking when they put the project together. So, I reached out to Jesse with some questions about his latest offering. Check out our Q&A after the jump.

blctxt "Cooking Up"

It's been a while since we've posted something from blctxt. It's actually been a while since I've heard from the homie. I'm glad he's back sharing some new music from his upcoming EP, A Smart Black Boy. The first single from the project finds blctxt laying down some dope rhymes over the Illastrate beat. This joint screams summer hit. Hit play and enjoy. Chea!

Signif "Wish Her Well"

It's always a good day when you receive some new music from Signif. The NYC by way of Milwaukee emcee teams up with her familiar producer, Gee Wiz, and delivers up another banger by way of Wish Her Well. Enjoy the track and look out for the S.I.G.M.A.T.A video off their Significant Wizdom project. Chea!
