TMB's Track of the Week 7/30/10: "Alone" Skeptik (@skepstravinsky)

I caught this joint from OC. He suggested it be the Track of the Week. It's pretty dope and comes from the homie Skeptik. "Alone" is produced by @rashadmusic and according to Skep, it's "off my album that may or may not be scrapped." Well, in the meantime, go ahead and enjoy "Alone," the track of the week.

What I'm Watching ... Blitz the Ambassador "Something to Believe"

Blitz the Ambassador's "Stereotype" is a very strong album. The dude Blitz is incredible. And his music is meaningful. Check out the visuals for "Something to Believe," directed by Terence Nance. Enjoy.
Premiering today at OkayPlayer.com, "Something to Believe," addresses the detachment we all battle when faced with the the world’s overwhelming issues. “It’s hard to think about all the problems in the world without getting a little overwhelmed. So, a lot of times we just ignore things. I think Africa has suffered a lot because people choose to remain ignorant, rather than address the issues that are right in front of our faces,” Blitz said.

"Something to Believe," is the second film collaboration between director Terence Nance and Blitz the Ambassador. In early 2010, Terence and Blitz teamed up to film Live Sessions, a video series documenting the making of Blitz' EP, StereoLive.

What I'm Watching ... @AHMADweclap "Nig Can't Tell Me Nunt"

I'm feeling this joint right here. Enjoy.
Ahmad releases the song and video "Nig Can't Tell Me Nunt", the 2nd leak off his long-awaited sophomore album, The Death of Me (August 10th, WeCLAP). Ahmad sounds defiant on this track, rapping in the face of naysayers that labeled him a one hit wonder, a slightly different look than The Death of Me's first track, the more light-hearted parody "Get Some Money & Go 2 Jail" featuring Crooked I.

"The first track made you laugh, this one will make you cry," says Ahmad of "Nig Can't Tell Me Nunt". "It's all about human emotions. We've all been in that place where someone is trying to tell you there is something you can't do. We're not trying to hear that anymore."

The Death of Me drops August 10th on Ahmad's own imprint, WeCLAP.

Listen To This: @JoonieZone

I was forwarded this email from none other than the man himself, Q, and when I listened to Joonie, also known as Calvin Gary, Jr. I found myself bobbing my head to his track "Fresh". I have to say the song as whole is a really good, however I would've liked to hear Sir Calvin do more with his voice. Toward the end of the song, you start seeing signs of his vocal ability. He's got a GREAT tone and I look forward to his future projects. He's a talented artist and musician and he has had music featured in the BET film I Do I Did (which is actually a pretty good movie, by the way)...

Other great songs of many are "Sunshine" (one of my favorites) and "Love You More" (also one of my favorites). I've previewed his album Acoustic Love and I have to say it's simply marvelous. I say go buy it. It's one of the NICEST R&B albums I've heard in a long time. I'm sitting here at my computer in awe, actually. I'm a sucker for a good R&B album though.

His album is available for download through his Bandcamp page joonie.bandcamp.com as well as Amazon, iTunes and his website www.jooniezone.com.

Check him out! You won't be disappointed. Until next time, enjoy.

Download ... Moxie Black - "So Much Better"

I don't know how I fully feel about this track but I'm willing to give it a shot. Thoughts?

“So Much Better" is a post-modern juxtaposition between anti-establishmentarianist tendencies and western eco-polity in the frame of global economics............NHHAT!

Call it the summer-jam of 2010, easy to reminisce to, but so much better to make new memories with. One part indie-pop, two parts hip-hop, shake, stir, now drink it up!

The group is still buzzing from the success of last week's electro-infused debut, "Risky Bizness," which landed them a spot on Complex Magazine's 5 O'Clock Shuffle:

"Today’s leaks are all about artists who know no genres... Moxie Black clashes indie electro backdrops with hip-hop and R&B sensibilities."

With a video in rotation on VH1 with Lady A, being featured in Sprite's "The Spark" National Campaign along with Drake and finishing up her debut album entitled "Heart Of a Champion." Throat Chop Session: Jersey Shore x NYSE? FOH!

Sure, ringing the opening bell on the New York Stock Exchange is simply a ceremonial thing, with athletes, actors, musicians and others taking part in the ringing (if you will) over the years. I get it.

But the cast of Jersey Shore? WTF?! Do they even know what the NYSE is? I doubt it. They (and their producers) have already failed geography, since for some odd reason they think Miami is a part of the Jersey Shore (name fail 101).

Reality TV makes me sick because it creates these self proclaimed stars whose claim to fame is nothing more than making a jackass out of themselves on television. Looking like fools lands them clothing lines, club appearances among other things. Can't knock the hustle BUT reality television has watered down the definition of "celebrity." Jersey Shore is among the bottom of the barrel in reality television and with a second season on the way, it will ONLY get worse!

Eff this show and throat chop this Jersey Shore shit!

Snookie is popular for talking shit and NEVER being able to back it up and the Situation is the textbook definition of douchebag. These fuck faces are walking stereotypes. On the bright side, at least it's not black folks (read: all of BET's reality based programming).

It's still sad shit.

Oh well, I can't wait for Mel Gibson to ring the NYSE bell. I bet they'll have to blow him first OR it will be the rose garden for them if not.

Check the project from St Joe Louis. Enjoy.
After a brief  layover with the "Almost There" FreEP...St. Joe Louis takes us "30,000 ft High & Rising."

It commences with an homage to De La Soul on 30,000 and then sky-rockets into the epic life journey’s of Elete, Tommie Chase and Michael Cardigan. The title deals not just with being fly but about the pressures that come with reaching for your dreams.

The trio- candid in their approach and transparent in their delivery- share their triumphs and failures on tracks like, I Reply, and Run Out of Love, respectively. "30,000 ft High & Rising" features Skyzoo, PH (formerly Pumkinhead), Daniel Joseph, and others.

Check It ... Oddisee West Coast Beats - Hosted By Trek Life

I'm a big fan of Oddisee and all the music he creates. I'm a little late on this but I'm sure others are too so posting this here should help. Check this out.

In preparation for Trek Life's new album "Everything Changed Nothing" available July 27th, I put together a "West Coast" beat-tape.
Coming from the city of Go-Go, I've always loved production inspired by funk. when it comes to funk inspired hip hop, no body does it like the west. While I was on the west producing Trek Life's album that inspiration went further than being a fan. I don't know if it was the palm trees, beaches, or burgers but this is what I was making in LA. What I'm Watching ... The Roots "The Fire" featuring John Legend

The Roots LP, How I Got Over, is in stores now. Video directed by Rik Cordero.

"The Fire" chronicles a post-apocalyptic death march set in 1945 during the final stages of World War II in Europe. After a cataclysmic event renders the war futile, a paramilitary splinter group -- led by a Kurtz-like figure known as The Commodore -- forces the transfer of young men who will be used as labor...and food. The last survivor of the march receives a mysterious White Box which holds the key to survival. - Rik

Next Up ... Behind The Unsigned : Man-u-ill

Behind every album you buy there is an artist that was signed to make that album.. with a budget.. a team to work with, and people to market it for them, but that was not always the case!

This is the story of talented artists that are currently struggling to make that dream ... a reality!

Soon to come the story of a talented unsigned artist by the name of Man-u-ill

Annual TOAST N FLOW 2 “Cotton Club” Edition

FamilyTreeMusicGroup.com presents the “Cotton Club.” A night of Burlesque, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ciphers, Poetry, and Vocal Performances.

I got a chance to check out more from what the Family Tree Music Group has to offer musically with their second annual Toast N' Flow held in Danbury, CT last Saturday. It was a mix of 1920's jazz, burlesque, and up to date Hip-Hop. Variety indeed. Jass Bianchi and company put together a pretty interesting night with performances by Miss Cherry and The Big Tent Jazz Band, d_Cyphernauts, Rising Sun Quest, Noodle, LaRue & The Movement Band, ZMO, DJ Mecca, Jass Bianchi and a few others. Check out the pics from the night.
