What I'm Watching: Chels "The Lesson" feat. Ace Boogie

I remember when I was first introduced to Chels music. There was something raw within those early tracks that was sent over. Underneath it all, I knew there was a great deal of talent. You could definitely hear that on her True School For The Moon Children project. And you can hear/see that in the visuals for The Lesson featuring Ace Boogie. I dig it. Enjoy the music. Chea!

@KirbyLauryen Signs With RocNation

"Thank You Beautiful People." -Kirby

Yesterday, a few hours before she publicly made her announcement, Kirby Lauryen hit us behind the scenes with some exciting news about the next phase of her singing/songwriting career. She had signed a RocNation Publishing Deal and wanted to thank our team for supporting her and her A Song A Day series. We're incredibly happy for her and it's been our pleasure to stand by and support Kirby. And we'll continue to support her too.

We started this site with the intentions of putting folks on to talented people. There have been times during Kirby's series that folks would hit me up and be like, "Q, why y'all ride so heavy with Kirby?" My response was always the same, "because she's talented." Not because she had come with co-signs. Not because she had thousands of youtube views. Not because she hit us with the sneak tip payola. It was all about talent. And with that talent, determination and prayer, Kirby's dreams have come true. Can't help but to be proud of her and that.

As Kirby begins the next phase, she takes to her youtube page to thank her fans and takes us back to the beginning of her A Song A Day journey.

Kirby, again, congratulations.

Wally Left "How It Be"

For his next release, North Carolina spitter Wally Left breaks down "How it Be," analyzing the power of his words and his determination to carve a niche in the rap game with his ability to rap. The beat from Yontz serves as a perfect soundbed for Wally's helter-skelter flow that dances around it effortlessly. As Wally and the rest of his No State Backgammon Gang brethren remain hard at work to provide their next individual projects, this release should serve to tide the fans over.

Interview: Miss Special x BJ The Chicago Kid

I'm not gonna front and say I didn't sleep on BJ The Chicago Kid. Even after hearing him on hook after hook, I still didn't have his project. But then one day, I was like, shit, I just need to get that. I did. After running through it for the first time, I was kind of pissed I slept on it for so long. Pineapple Now-Laters is one of the strongest overall projects released this year and definitely one of the best R&B/Soul joints. If you aren't up on it, don't make the mistake I did and sleep any longer. Anyway, our good friend Miss Special caught up with BJ down at A3C. Peep their interview up top.
While at A3C I got to chat with BJ The Chicago Kid again about his upcoming collaborations and album on Motown Records. He says that a Jill Scott collaboration will happen and describes what it will be like. He also says that a Jojo song is in the works they just both need to find the right time and the right vibe. He also speaks about an upcoming track with Chuck Inglish that he's waiting for Chuck to release but says it's so hot he might have to steal it if it's not released soon enough. He also speaks about opening up for Anthony Hamilton and reminisces about hearing Hamilton's album for the first time. Additionally, he talks about the highlight of his live show and working on tracks to release before his Motown Records album.

Born in Broken Hill, raised in North-West Sydney & currently resides in Canberra, Nix is an emcee from Australia that's been in love with the genre of Hip-Hop ever since he heard Ghostface Killah's open verse on "Bring The Ruckus". I've been a fan of Theo Martins since 2010 when he released his EP You Can't Do That On Television. After that EP, I've featured his tunes on the site a gang of times but its been a while. Then a few weeks back he dropped me an email asking if I'd like to take part in an online listening session for his new project. I didn't hesitate to accept the invitation. And there I found myself lost in Wonderland, the debut project from the Cali based by way of Rhode Island emcee. What I'm Watching: Emilio Rojas "Right To Stay"

I saw this cat perform on the iHip Hop DX at the A3C Hip Hop Festival this year and since he was mad dope, I did a little digging to find more of his stuff. The videos he has done have been f-awesome, but his 2011 "Right To Stay" was a particular favorite. Speaking on the immigration laws in Arizona, Emilio Rojas brings to the forefront some painful topics that Latinos and other ethnic groups have to deal with. Not necessarily enjoyable to watch, but it definitely makes you think... Peep it below.

Download: Euro League - "Cloud9 : Annunaki Rap"

Euro League hit me up with a link before he released "Cloud9 : Annunaki Rap" a few days ago and it's been in my rotation on and off since. I'm loving the sound on this project as well as his flow and how he goes through story after story accompanying the production seamlessly. Cloud9 was a great choice of a word to use for how I sort of felt while listening to this 6 track project. The fact that it's also a free project is just another plus to what Euro League does here. This joint is yet another example of how folks do have an actual choice in getting quality music and not allowing themselves to be force fed music that doesn't step up to the quality plate. Definitely hit the play and then the download and then the share!

K-Prime - "Vinyl Fling"

K-Prime's latest, produced by SUPERLATIVe and Meech Gold and featuring Mtali Banda on the sax, allows you to wind down without losing focus on how smooth this track flows. Check for yourself.

Vinyl Fling is inspired by the movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's" with a bit of a musical twist. It's about a woman who shies away from commitment and only relies on the things she loves - music.

What I'm Watching: 7evenThirty - "GetUp!!!"

Something about this joint just comes off musically refreshing. I can't tell if it's the production or the flow or both. Either way, I'm digging this. This track is off his recently released album "Heaven's Computer". Get it and peep the video.

What I'm Watching: The Red Giants - "Time 2 Roll"

Peep the visuals from Jermiside and Brickbeats for their second single off "Supercharged" dropping Oct 30th.

So I put together some visuals for Time 2 Roll. Watch as Brick brings out the trusty Oldsmobile 88 to the drag racing strip. He wouldn’t let me show the outcome of his races (which were pretty hilarious, pay attention to the cars he raced) but good times were had that day.

First single: Wordspray ft. Che Grand & Omar Aura

What I'm Watching: The Audible Doctor "Baby Momma"

I know a thing or two about baby mommas. Uh, allegedly, of course. Ha! The Audible Doctor creates an anthem of sorts on falling outs and the ups and downs with baby mommas, with marink on production, from his I Think That... EP. Peep the CaliGraphi directed visuals. I can dig it. Chea!

Vandalyzm "Ozymandias"

The homie Vandalyzm drops off the self-produced first single from his upcoming EP The End All Be All. I guess it's safe to say the Saint Louis emcee is back. And I can dig it! Chea!
As you might or might not know, earlier this year all my equipment was stolen, and this EP I was working on was taken with it.  I had to start back from the ground up, with help from my supporters and kickstarter, I got everything running again.  This is my first offering from that project, a testament to how tired I am of all this insanely soft ass rap music that is in the world at the moment.  Produced by me as well, hopefully you dig it.

NEW RELEASE: Chuuwee "Wild Style"

I've been waiting for this project for a while and the homie Chuuwee finally drops off Wild Style. With production from Cookin' Soul, Tellapath, The Audible Doctor, Large Professor and more, this joint is a winner. I rarely co-sign projects with more than 15 tracks but Wild Style is definitely worth the listen. Head over to livemixtapes for the stream/download. Chea!
